An Evening with the British Explorer and Adventurer Tim Oakley

The British adventurer Tim Oakley and his three-man team recently retraced Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen’s 1905 dogsled journey, travelling 1,100 kilometres from Hershel Island, 5km off the coast of the Yukon to Eagle, Alaska. Tim, who has completed many other exciting expeditions, joins us tonight to relate just what inspired him to do it and how his three-man, 22-dog team endured six weeks of extreme terrain and frigid temperatures to successfully recreate the trip Amundsen achieved 111 years ago.

(Tim has donated his fee to the Royal Geographical Society, of which he is a Fellow)

Jazz Night with The Kim Cypher Quartet

Kim Cypher is gifted saxophonist with an unique ‘funky’ style and also an accomplished jazz vocalist and composer. Described as “One of the most exciting jazz musicians in the South West”, Kim regularly appears on national TV and radio. In addition to Dancing’ Easy, her successful party band of 20 years, Kim leads her own jazz quartet, The Kim Cypher Quartet, which includes her husband Mike on drums, and performs with many other bands and recordings as a session musician. Her debut album, Make Believe, has just been released, to great acclaim.

The Joy and Pleasure of Cider with Food with Tom Oliver - The Herefordian Cider Ambassador

Cider and perry is Herefordshire’s liquid gold, so meet Midas: Tom Oliver is the Master Cidermaker at Oliver’s Cider and Perry in Ocle Pochard, Herefordshire. When he’s not on the road, tour managing The Proclaimers, or sharing his unique “minimal intervention wild yeast” cider making style across Europe and America, Tom is making his award-winning cider and perry on his Herefordshire farm. Tom and Claire Nicholls, Castle House’s Executive head chef, have joined up to create tonight’s Herefordshire menu that shows the incredible versatility of cider and perry with a selection of delicious dishes.
