Abergavenny Food Festival 2019

Abergavenny Food Festival enjoys an exceptional reputation as a place for chefs, food businesses, journalists, farmers and food producers to come together. It is well known for being an inclusive and welcoming event.  It has an outstanding programme of activities, including product tastings, kids’ activities, masterclasses, hands-on cookery lessons and topical debates, and provides the inside track on food issues, offers new ideas about the future of food and showcases rising stars emerging from the industry.

The Festival prides itself on transforming the way people think about food; challenging and promoting new ideas, pushing the boundaries of current thinking and encouraging people to look differently at where their food comes from.  Follow the festival here.

Celebrating Herefordshire Game

Herefordshire has some of the best wild game in the country.  Its nutritional benefits are many being low in fat, sustainable with natural flavours. Our Head Chef Gabor will create a contemporary menu with a different take on some of the more traditional game dishes and some interesting ingredients and accompaniments.

Christmas Music by Candlelight at Hereford Cathedral

Book a two-course, pre-concert supper at Castle House and then walk to Hereford Cathedral for what is the most magical evenings in the calendar.

In the deep, still darkness, only candles pierce the winter gloom. And then, upon the silence, comes the luminous sound of a choir in harmony. With a sequence of Christmas music old and new, and readings to make you smile and reflect, these popular Christmas concerts are a unique way to begin your festive season. Early booking is recommended. This concert will end at approximately 10pm.

Festive Wreathmaking Workshops 11th, 12th and 13th December 2019

Debbie Coplans is one of Herefordshire’s most innovative and talented florists. She creates beautiful floral themes for weddings, private parties and functions all over the country. She will demonstrate how to create a festive wreath for a door or table, or perhaps a garland for a mantelpiece or bannisters. Using fresh foliage, berries, cones and fresh winter flowers, Debbie will guide you through the process so you have something beautiful to take home. Always fun, the workshop and festive lunch is especially enjoyable to do with a group of friends.

Workshop: £60 includes all materials, two-course festive lunch and coffees

Time: 10.30am until 3.30pm

Christmas at Castle House

Situated in a quiet part of the beautiful city of Hereford, just a few minutes' walk from the cathedral,  Castle House is a really special place to have your Christmas celebrations.  Our packages get booked up very quickly so we would advise early booking.  One thing is for certain, you will not have to think about a thing, as we will do it all for you!

From Tuesday, 24th – Friday, 27th December 2019

CHRISTMAS EVE
Arrive in time for afternoon tea, followed by a pre-dinner Champagne reception and six-course candlelit dinner. There will be mulled wine and mince pies for anyone returning from the Midnight Service at Hereford Cathedral.

CHRISTMAS DAY
After a full Hereford breakfast, unwrap and enjoy your presents. Traditional Christmas Lunch will be served in the Restaurant, and there will be Afternoon Tea from 3pm. Dinner will be a light buffet.

BOXING DAY
Full Hereford breakfast will be served until 10am. Take time to explore Hereford with one or both of our circular city walks. After a buffet lunch, there is a matinée performance of the pantomime 'Cinderella' at The Courtyard Theatre. After the show, a three-course dinner will be served back at Castle House.

FRIDAY, 27TH DECEMBER
Enjoy a full Hereford breakfast, served in the restaurant, before you leave us.

Castle House New Year's Eve Party

31 December 2019

Our New Year's Eve party kicks off with a Champagne reception before sitting down to a delicious six-course dinner.  One of our favourite bands, The Hannah Lockerman Band, will play some cool jazz during dinner and will up the tempo later on with some dance numbers.  Just before midnight, we'll all gather in the garden, beside the old moat, to watch the fireworks and welcome in 2020.

Valentine's Dinner

Our intimate restaurant is perfect for a romantic, candlelit dinner and our chefs have lovingly created a delicious menu, with St. Valentine's Day in mind.  Check with reception for our 2020 Valentine's packages. We recommend early booking to avoid disappointment.

Pre-Cheltenham Evening with Peter Scudamore MBE

Our annual Pre-Cheltenham Evening with Peter Scudamore MBE and his panel of experts who will discuss and debate the Runners and Riders at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival. 

Tickets: £35 including two course dinner and a glass of Wye Valley’s Butty Bach or wine.               

Stay the night from £155 including full English breakfast 

About an hour’s drive from Castle House, the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival is from Tuesday, 12th to Friday, 15th March.  Base yourself at Castle House with Bed & Breakfast from £155 for two per night.
