Wednesday, 8th March

Speaking in Public Workshop
with accredited public speaking coach, NLP practitioner and drama teacher, Lesley Lear.
We all have to speak in public from time to time but most of us hate the idea, and try to avoid it if possible. The good news is that, with thorough preparation and practise, you can overcome your nervousness and perform exceptionally well. This workshop will demonstrate how you can become a confident, successful and interesting public speaker, able to stand and deliver, whatever the audience!

Sunday, 12th March 7pm
Pre-Cheltenham Evening
with Peter Scudamore MBE and his panel of experts
Runners and riders at this year’s Cheltenham Festival will be dis-cussed and debated with eight-time Champion Jockey Peter Scudamore and his panel of experts, including Champion Jockey Tom Scudamore, trainers Michael Scudamore and Tom Symonds, as well as The Mail’s Sam Turner and Marcus Townsend.
Ticket: £35 including two-course dinner and a glass of Wye Valley’s Butty Bach or wine

Base yourself at Castle House over the Festival (Tuesday, 14th to Friday, 17th March). Dinner, bed and breakfast in a junior suite from £245 per night or three nights £700.

Mother’s Day
One of our favourite special days when you can treat the mother or grandmother in your life to a delicious Sunday lunch cooked by Executive head chef Claire Nicholls and her team.

Wednesday, 12th April
10am to 3pm
Flower Arranging Workshop with Debbie Coplans of The Hibiscus Room
Meet at Castle House for coffee at 10.00 after which we will walk to The Pavilion on nearby Castle Green. Debbie will show you how to make beautiful Easter arrangements using fresh, Spring flowers. We will return to Castle House at 1.30pm for lunch.
Ticket: £50 including class, all materials, flower arrangements, two-course lunch and coffee

Sunday, 16th April 12pm to 2pm
Easter Sunday
A very popular traditional lunch with delicious Herefordshire roast and all the trimmings. Our traditional egg treasure hunt in the garden has become something of a ‘must-do’ with adults and children alike.

Our normal menu will be served on Monday Bank Holiday

St George’s Day and Shakespeare’s Birthday
Celebrate England’s Patron Saint’s and The Bard’s special day with a delicious traditional roast and pudding in the Castle House Restaurant or Bellingham Bistro.

Wednesday, 26th April
10.30am to 3.30pm
Spring Visit to The Laskett Gardens
A Private Visit to Sir Roy Strong’s CH beautiful Laskett Gardens, followed by lunch at Castle House.
Join up with some friends and meet at 10.15 in The Laskett Gardens car park, just off the A49 at Much Birch, Herefordshire HR2 8HZ. The car park is on the right before the gardens’ entrance. An audio guide and detailed map will be provided and the shop will be open to purchase signed books, plants and other exclusive mementos. We depart the gardens at 12.30 and return to Castle House for lunch.
NB: The Laskett Gardens is a private property and welcomes visitors who come at their own risk.
Private visit, two-course lunch and coffee: £35 includes a donation to the Perennial Charity, the Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society.

Thursday, 11th May 11am - 3.30pm
Artist Workshop with Kate Moby
Kate Moby is a designer whose hand drawn, nature-focused illustrations on homeware, stationery and gifts have been featured in many publications including The Guardian and Country Homes Magazine and are available from independent stockists. Her designs are created using bamboo grown in her Herefordshire studio garden, which is formed into dip pens and used with pots of ink. Kate is also a talented photographer and graphic designer whose clients include the BBC and Cartier. Learn how to carve your own bamboo dip pen, with all the tools and guidance needed. We will be photographing nature in the hotel’s garden, selecting our favourite photos and drawing from them, using your freshly-crafted pen and ink. Combining ancient and modern techniques, this inspiring and creative workshop will cover technique, composition, and how to use the latest editing apps.

Fresh and Smoked Fish Dinner
Executive head chef Claire Nicholls and her team, together with the Severn & Wye Smokery, have created a delicious menu for this evening. Situated on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean, between two of England’s most celebrated salmon rivers, the company continues the old fashioned art and practice of ‘smoking’ only the highest quality fish and meat. Its two flagship products are smoked wild salmon and smoked eel, but the business has grown to produce a full range of smoked fish products, which it distributes to top restaurants and outlets across the UK and the world. Friday, 23rd June
2.30pm - 4.30pm
A Visit to Ballingham Hall with Afternoon Tea
For over 120 years Ballingham Hall has been home to the Watkins family, owners of Castle House. A Grade II listed sandstone manor house with a fully working farm, the Hall’s kitchen garden grows much of the seasonal vegetables, herbs and fruit for the hotel’s menus. Meet at Ballingham Hall, where you will be welcomed by George Watkins who will take you on a tour of the farm. You will meet Colin Brown, the gardener who looks after the Kitchen Garden, as well
as Castle House’s pretty terraced garden. We will have a stroll around the lake before visiting the Grade II listed Church of St Dubricius, which dates from the 13th and 14th centuries and was restored in 1885. Afternoon tea will be served in Ballingham Hall’s pretty garden, weather permitting, or in the house.

An Evening with the British Explorer and Adventurer Tim Oakley
The British adventurer Tim Oakley and his three-man team recently retraced Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen’s 1905 dogsled journey, travelling 1,100 kilometres from Hershel Island, 5km off the coast of the Yukon to Eagle, Alaska. Tim, who has completed many other exciting expeditions, joins us tonight to relate just what inspired him to do it and how his three-man, 22-dog team endured six weeks of extreme terrain and frigid temperatures to successfully recreate the trip Amundsen achieved 111 years ago.
(Tim has donated his fee tonight to the Royal Geographical Society, of which he is a Fellow.)

Jazz Night with The Kim Cypher Quartet
Kim Cypher is gifted saxophonist with an unique ‘funky’ style and also an accomplished jazz vocalist and composer. Described as “One of the most exciting jazz musicians in the South West”, Kim regularly appears on national TV and radio. In addition to Dancing’ Easy, her successful party band of 20 years, Kim leads her own jazz quartet, The Kim Cypher Quartet,
which includes her husband Mike on drums, and performs with many other bands and recordings as a session musician. Her debut album, Make Believe, has just been released, to great acclaim.

The Joy and Pleasure of Cider with Food with Tom Oliver – The Herefordian Cider Ambassador
Cider and Perry is Herefordshire’s liquid gold, so meet Midas: Tom Oliver is the Master Cidermaker at Oliver’s Cider and Perry in Ocle Pochard, Herefordshire. When he’s not on the road, tour managing The Proclaimers, or sharing his unique “minimal intervention wild yeast” cider making style across Europe and America, Tom is making his award-winning cider and perry on his Herefordshire farm. Tom and Claire Nicholls, Castle House’s Executive head chef, have joined up to create tonight’s Herefordshire menu that shows the incredible versatility of cider and perry with a selection of delicious dishes.
Find out what Fera at Claridges, Lyles and The Marksman in London already know. Cider and perry are very fine drinks and in the kitchen, their chefs delight in marinating, cooking with, creating sauces from and dipping in vinegars.
