Claire Nicholls, Castle House's Head Chef, is one of the most talented in this part of the UK. She is passionate about sourcing her ingredients as close to the hotel as she can, and works closely with the huge variety of committed producers whose livelihood is based in Hereford and the Herefordshire Marches. Almost unique to the hotel is that owner, David Watkins, supplies the kitchen with produce and beef from the pedigree Hereford herd on his Hereford farm, Ballingham Hall.
Whether you eat in our à la carte restaurant from Claire's seasonally-changing menu, or have a light lunch in our Castle Bistro, you'll experience the skill and innovation of Claire's kitchen team.
The Castle Bistro is open from 7am until 10pm for morning coffee and pastries to enjoy with the papers, proper afternoon tea and cocktails, and a Bistro-style dinner menu, all of which can be served on our peaceful terrace when the sun shines. You can also enjoy a drink or afternoon tea in our lounge.
We have an extremely popular restaurant and bistro, and we cannot guarantee a table will be available for dinner if you have not made a reservation. We recommend that you book a table when you book your room to avoid disappointment.
Breakfast is served from 7am-10am
Lunch from 12 noon -2pm
Dinner from 6.30pm-9.30pm (9pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays)
We are very happy to arrange a pre-theatre meal for you if you are attending a performance at The Courtyard. Please let us know. Click here to see our sample menus.

What they say...
'Classy townhouse hotel with innovative style of cooking. The kitchen makes good use of local suppliers and comes up with bright, modern ideas. Sound techniques and an eye for presentation.'
AA Restaurant Guide 2013
'The restaurant in the Castle House [is] first-rate...The main fillet of Herefordshire beef with mash, braised shin wrapped in leeks, horseradish jus and purple sprouting broccoli was perfectly cooked.'
The Times Cool Hotel Guide March 2012
'It will take another visit or two before I can pass judgement on Jesse Norman's claim that Hereford has great restaurants, plural; but that it has one at least is beyond doubt. Nicholls strikes me as a versatile, inventive chef who deserves greater recognition and respect.'
